USU football player suffers “medical emergency” during practice

LOGAN — There were frightening moments Thursday afternoon, when a Utah State football player collapsed on Merlin Olsen Field. The incident happened during the third practice of the team’s spring camp.

According to emergency radio communications, paramedics were called to the stadium after the player collapsed and was unresponsive. Staff began performing CPR until emergency responders arrived on scene.

The team huddled nearby watching as their teammate received life-saving treatment.

“A Utah State football player had a medical emergency at practice Thursday afternoon and was transported to Logan Regional Hospital,” the release said.

The university did not release any more details regarding what happened or the player’s identity. The team’s media relations representative said more information will be given at a later date.
