MILLVILLE — Musical and artistic talent among young people in the south side of Cache Valley will be on display next week with the 24th annual Young Artists Cup, to be held Wednesday, March 29th and Thursday, March 30th at 7 p.m. each night in the Ridgeline High School auditorium.

On KVNU’s For the People program on Tuesday, organizer Ruthanne Ellis agreed that it features local talent that many residents might not be aware of.

“Absolutely, in fact every year I am just blown away at the quality of talent that we see from these students. It’s incredible, and it’s inspiring, actually, which is what I think drives us to continue to organize this every year, because it is a lot of work. But, wow, when you see those students and see what they are capable of,” she explained.

The students who go to either Mountain Crest or Ridgeline High School or live in their boundaries will compete in musical instrumentation, vocals, writing, sculpting, painting and everything in between.

Ellis said there was also a competition for the Young Artist Cup logo for this year.

“Yes, so that’s actually part of the competition. That starts in the fall and we reach out to both of the schools, it’s open to anybody. We just simply ask the students to design a logo, and there’s a few rules that they have to abide by, certain words that we want included.

“And then the students from both schools submit their entries to the committee and we vote on it and then select the logo that we will have for that year’s competition.”

The public is invited to the Piano and Brass/Wind/Percussion competition on Wednesday, March 29th and the String and Vocal competition will be held on Thursday, March 30th and it’s free admission both nights.
