BOX ELDER COUNTY — A 28-year-old man was killed Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Collinston. The accident occurred along SR-38 near Central Milling around 9:10 a.m.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden said a 2005 Mazda 3 passenger vehicle was southbound at 14500 North SR-38. At the same time, a white 2001 Ford F-250 pickup truck was northbound, when the two vehicles clipped each other.

“Troopers are currently investigating what caused them to sideswipe each other,” said Roden. “Whether one drifted over or whether they were perfectly matched to the middle of the road, they sideswiped each other as they passed.”

The impact of the collision peeled the metal off of the driver’s side doors of the Mazda. The 23-year-old driver was uninjured and did not need any medical care.

Meanwhile, Roden said the truck lost control after striking the Mazda and rolled.

“The driver of the Ford pickup ended up going off to the right, onto the shoulder and then over correcting back to the left, and then rolling. The individual was partially ejected from the truck and died as a result of their injuries at the scene.”

First crews on the scene reported the white truck upside down in the road. The driver was found under the truck.

Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

Troopers did not report whether either occupant was wearing a seatbelt. They will also investigate whether impairment, distraction or fatigue played a factor in the crash. SR-38 was closed for several hours and reopened at about 1:30 pm.

Roden said the identity of the driver will be released Wednesday, following notification of family.
