World Ballet Series to perform ‘Cinderella’ at the Ellen Eccles Theatre

LOGAN – The World Ballet Series is coming to the Ellen Eccles Theatre to present the ballet Cinderella, with music by Sergi Prokofiev.

The production will be offered for one night only on Wednesday, Mar. 8.

Although the World Ballet Series takes pains to proclaim themselves to be ballet touring company based in the United States, the Gorskaya-Hartwick Production is made up almost exclusively of talented eastern European artists and performers.

When producers Sasha Gorskaya of Belarus and Gulya Hartwick of Latvia founded their ballet troupe in Los Angeles in 2015, they named it the Russian Ballet Theatre in a tip of the hat to that country’s rich ballet traditions.

Their goal was to bring the world’s most beloved ballets to live stages across the United States.

To do that, they assembled a multinational troupe of 40 dancers from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, South Korea, Armenia and Slovenia, among others.

The group was in the middle of a tour in 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine. To express their solidarity with the Ukrainian people, the dance company changed its name, first to RBT and then to the World Ballet Series.

In their current tour, the dancers are performing Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Cinderella and Romeo and Juliet in repertory.

Here in Logan, Cinderella will be brought to life through the inspired choreography of Marina Kesler, with scenery by production designer Sergey Novikov.

The two producers promise to mount a visually stunning production here, with Prokofiev’s passionate score, over 150 hand-sewn radiant costumes, gorgeous richly detailed sets and sparkling choreography.

The show’s multinational cast of professional ballet dancers representing 10 countries are united by a passion for enriching classical ballet traditions through brilliant and critically acclaimed new productions of those classics, they say.

The dancers performing Cinderella will include Leonardo Celegato, Konstantin Geronik, Igor Gancharyk, Valeria Grudina, Alexander Korobtsov, Anton Kravchenko, Andrea Lussakova, Ekaterina Lukianova, Darya Medovskaya, Ekaterina Malkovich, Igor Matskevich, Kanat Nadyrbek, Yuka Ozaki, Cristina Pavone, Kyunsun Park, Andrei Pasakh, Anastasia Pavlova, Joy Gillian Redington, Alexandra Rakovskaya, Edyta Russ, Alexandra Sodoleva, Irina Sapoyhnikova, Maksim Vlas and Angelina Zgurskaya.

The staging of Cinderella is slated for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 8 at the Ellen Eccles Theatre.

Tickets can be obtained online at www.cachearts.org or by calling the theater box office at 435-752-0026.

The Ellen Eccles Theatre is located at 43 South Main Street in downtown Logan.
