LOGAN — A 23-year-old Logan man has been sentenced to more than six months in jail for trying to meet up to have sex with an undercover police officer, posing as a 13-year-old girl last fall. Cameron Michael Ross was ordered to serve 200 days in jail instead of prison, after a judge expressed concern about his truthfulness.

Ross was sentenced Monday morning in 1st District Court. He previously pleaded guilty to enticing a minor by internet or text, a second-degree felony.

In September, Ross began engaging in online chats with a Logan City Police officer. He also sent an inappropriate photo of his privates, while arranging to meet at a park near his home.

During the message exchange, the officer stated their age multiple times and also made references to being in middle school.

Ross told the officer he wanted to have sex with her. A time and place was arranged to meet.

Police were able to identify Ross as the suspect from the phone number used in the text messages and photos sent.

When Ross showed up at the predesignated spot, he texted police that he’d arrived. Law enforcement surrounded him and took him into custody without incident.

While being questioned by officers, Ross reportedly admitted to engaging in the chats. He claimed, he was only going to make her lunch, and warn her of the dangers of chatting with men on the internet. He later made several statements that he had messed up and he couldn’t believe what he did.

During Monday’s sentencing, defense attorney Shannon Demler said he hoped his client would realize that the choices he made could lead him to prison.

Judge Angela Fonnesbeck said Ross’ “behavior is not tolerated in our community.” She expressed concern that he hadn’t been honest about what he had done.

Ross was ordered to serve 200 days in jail but given credit for 118 days already served. Upon release, he will be placed on probation and restricted from having any access to the internet.

Hope he gets put on the registry as a sex offender, he should have to use a phone with no internet an not be allowed to have computers in his home or access to any of them…. anyone being a gross pedo should be subject to the same thing and have stricter sentences imposes. It’s nasty and they are disgusting wastes of space and air.

Will this man have to register as a sex offender ? My neighbor did the very same thing for the FBI and is not registered . Time served 90 days maybe after a bargain . I think it should be registered even if bargain for easy trial is reached .
