RICHMOND — A firefighter from Lewiston was transported by ambulance to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries sustained at a traffic accident Monday morning. The firefighter was struck by a parked fire engine when a Ford F-350 pickup hit the engine in heavy fog.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cade Brenchley said paramedics and troopers were responding to three separate crashes, near 11600 North US-91. There was dense fog and icy roads at the time.
A press release from the Cache County Fire District said, firefighters placed the engine to protect the scene of an earlier accident where emergency medical crews were working to extricate another motorist.
The vehicle pileups all occurred in the same vicinity around 9 a.m.
Brenchley said two others and the firefighter were injured in crashes. None of them were life threatening.
Troopers diverted a portion of southbound traffic on US-91 through Lewiston while emergency crews cleared the pileups. The detour lasted for about two hours.
Following the crashes, the Cache County Fire District asked motorists to please slow down when driving conditions are not optimal and watch out for emergency vehicles.
Brenchley also said it is important for drivers to turn on their vehicle’s headlights while driving in foggy conditions.
There are some seriously stupid people living in this valley for not turning on their head lights in the fog…..
