Lorraine Harston Harms

August 7, 1941 – November 15, 2022 (age 81)

Lorraine Harston Harms was born on August 7, 1941, to Richard George Harston and Anna Woodbury Harston in Salt Lake City, Utah. She had six siblings: LaDell, Shirley (Millett), Vivian (Allsop), Lynette (Heninger), Ruth (Martinez), and David.

Two weeks after her birth, Lorraine’s parents moved to Oakland, California to contribute to the war effort. Her father installed and wired depth-sounding equipment on the Liberty Ships being built in the Richmond shipyards. Her mother ran a lathe and made parts for repairs as needed in a marine electric shop.

After the war, the family moved to Logan, Utah. When Lorraine graduated from high school, she enrolled in Utah State University. After two years of study, she moved to San Francisco, California with her cousin, Diana, and secured a secretarial job at Greyhound Bus Line. Later, she worked in a doctor’s office in Concord, California for more than 15 years.

She was married to Kenneth William Harms from 1962 until 1993. They had four children: Dianna Marie (Digoy), Valency Ann (Fox), Monelle Lee (Smith), and Chandelle Aimee (Volo).

Lorraine was a devoted mother to her four girls. During the family’s 25 years in Danville, California, Lorraine volunteered in her daughters’ schools, led Girl Scout troops and summer day camps, and taught them to cook and sew. She made sure they had music, dance, and swimming lessons. She also served in her Latter-day Saint ward in many capacities over the years.

While living in Bay Point, California, for 22 years, Lorraine volunteered on the Bay Point Garden Club’s Yard of the Month committee, joined a quilting group, and sewed over 100 baby blankets for families in her community.

Lorraine was quiet and gentle, with an understated sense of humor. She was fearless around creatures like crickets, frogs, and snakes. Her favorite hobbies included quilting, counted cross-stitch, tole painting, and reading.

Lorraine passed peacefully on November 15, 2022 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

She will be buried in the Logan Cemetery in Logan, Utah, on December 3, 2022.

A family memorial service will be held at that time.

She is survived by her four children and 13 grandchildren.

Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at Allen Mortuaries.
