Burke H. Theurer

August 26, 1943 – November 29, 2022 (age 79)

An honorable and precious son of God was called home on November 29, 2022. It can be said that Burke not only endured to the end, but truly endured well his many trials and challenges while also helping many others learn to endure theirs.

He was a true man of God following in Our Saviors footsteps. He was (and is) a great teacher to us all. He was pure and simple in his ways – truly a man without guile.

Burke could have had the world, but chose heaven instead. Blessed with great wisdom, knowledge, intelligence, skills and abilities, he dedicated them all to the Lord and answered every call with obedience and humility. He was always steady and sure. His compass was true.

Burke was born in Logan, Utah on August 26, 1943 to Thomas Ray and Edith Hyer Theurer. In 1961, he graduated from high school and was named as the outstanding Social Science Study student. From 1962 – 1965, Burke served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Peru and Chile where he labored diligently with the spirit to bring many of our Father’s sons and daughters into the fold of God. Forty years later, he was blessed to meet again (in the USA), three families he had baptized. He also had the opportunity to attend the mission farewell for the son of a little girl whose family he had baptized.

During the years from 1965 – 1968, Burke worked hard at many part-time jobs to put himself through college. He graduated from Utah State University in 1968 with B.A. degrees in Business Administration and Economics.

In 1968, Burke enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and honorably served his country as an Infantry Officer, Rifle Platoon Commander, Weapons Platoon Commander (Vietnam) and Regimental Operations and Training Officer. Upon completion of his military service in 1971, he took advantage of the GI Bill and obtained his pilot’s license.

Burke loved the outdoors. He hiked and camped, and was a certified open water scuba diver. He enjoyed many diving trips. He loved most sports, particularly football, basketball, skiing and water skiing. Burke’s great intelligence earned him honored admission into Mensa International High – IQ society with a score at the 99th percentile of all the general population. He loved learning and had a special love for history, ancient history and military history.

Burke is an author. He wrote a historical novel filled with an eternal perspective. HOLLYWOOD CANTEEN – Grandma’s Tale, a World War II set story, is amazingly laced with historically accurate facts, loving family relationships, introductory gospel messages and the testimony that families are, indeed, forever. Burke also authored a poignant poem which became the inspired lyrics to the beautiful hymn Father, Oh Father. It carries the message of personal love for our Heavenly Father, the tender plea for heavenly guidance and the true and sincere offering of praises to Our glorious Father above.

Throughout his life, Burke served in numerous church callings. Those he loved most were teaching. He was a scriptural scholar and wrote many volumes detailing his religious studies. He was called and ordained to the office of Seventy in the Melchizedek Priesthood in 1979. He served as an Institute teacher for the Church Educational System. He also ministered to and taught many both in English and Spanish.

Burke met his eternal companion, Lou, at a church, St. Patrick’s Day activity in 1991 – a blind date. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on April 3, 1992. On January 6, 1994 he became the father of a beautiful daughter, Jacque – the sunshine of his life. The heavens opened to him when he became the grandfather of a beautiful baby boy, Ethan, his best buddy forever. Once again, the heavens opened as he became the grandfather of a beautiful baby girl, Sydney, more precious than a pearl to her grandpa.

There is no prouder father (Babo) and grandfather (Baba). These three children and his bride hold his heart and his love. No greater blessing exists than the love shared with each of them. The years come and go, but love and eternal families are forever.

Burke is survived by his wife Louanna Lyons Theurer; daughter Jacqueline Theurer Coleman (James); grandchildren: Ethan Theurer Coleman and Sydney Jacqueline Theurer Coleman; sisters: Nannette Brenchley (Doug), Susan Rasmussen (Brent) and Jett Thompson; many loved and adored nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dennis R Theurer; brother-in- Law, George L Thompson.
