LOGAN — A 23-year-old Logan man has confessed to raping multiple women and will now wait to learn whether he will be sentenced to jail or prison. Spencer Eric Dodd waived his rights to a fair trial and accepted a plea deal in multiple cases.

Dodd appeared Wednesday in 1st District Court. He pleaded guilty to two counts of rape, a first-degree felony; and forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony.

Defense attorney Shannon Demler explained that as part of the plea agreement, prosecutors dropped 11 remaining charges.

In February, Dodd, who is originally from Spokane, Washington and moved to Logan to attend Utah State, was arrested after two women reported being raped during dates with him to Logan City Police officers. The victims described similar situations where he refused to comply with the women’s lack of consent but later apologized for acting anyway.

Two weeks later, Dodd was arrested again after a third woman contacted police, describing how she was also raped by the defendant, while on a date in September 2020. She had met him on a dating app geared toward members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They arranged to meet at a house near USU’s campus, where the assault took place.

In April, a fourth woman came forward, describing how she was raped by Dodd earlier in the year. The woman reported meeting the defendant on an online dating app. They agreed to meet and watch a movie at his residence.

While on the date, the woman said Dodd began assaulting and raping her. He also placed his hand around her neck and covered her mouth, causing her to temporarily lose consciousness.

During Wednesday’s court hearing, Judge Brian Cannell accepted attorney’s plea agreement. He ordered Dodd to undergo a presentence report about his criminal history, compiled by probation agents.

Dodd remains in the Cache County Jail, held without bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 14 and could face up to life in prison.

They barely send pedophiles to prison. I bet this A hole gets a slap on the wrist and 60 days in jail. …. you get more jail time for a weed charge than sexual assualt.

Wow he sure looks like a winner! Hopefully find himself a daddy in prison who shows him what it’s like to be forcibly assaulted!

I will play that unpopular role of “Devil’s Advocate” regardless of the outrage that’ll likely come from my comment. Sounds like these women may have known each other to have each one “come forth” in a conveniently coincidental succession to report alleged sexual crimes. Did they go to the doctor/hospital to preserve the DNA evidence after said crimes occurred? I share that same righteous indignation that others quickly express over sexual crimes and abuse; I also know that not everyone is trustworthy and to just jump on the bandwagon without further ado not only is ignorant, it’s also dangerous. Anyone remember the #metoo movement? I mean, did the police put out an APB for any and all sexual/relationship information on this man? Or could a group of friends got together to figure out how to demonize this man…. stranger things have happened in the bizarro world in which we live. Either way, this guy is probably screwed…no pun intended.
