League of Women Voters of Cache Valley holding information meeting on Open Space and RAPZ tax re-authorization

LOGAN — Two bond initiatives on the November ballot will ask voters about reauthorizing the RAPZ program and address the issue of preserving Open Space amidst all the growth.

The League of Women Voters of Cache Valley will discuss these issues this Wednesday night, Sept 7th at an information meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Logan.

On a recent KVNU For the People program Kendra Penry of the local league said it’s really a no-brainer for them to inform the public about it.

“Well, the League of Women Voters, this is pretty much their bread and butter, making sure that voters feel educated when they head to the polls,” Penry said. “It’s not about telling people how to vote, but trying to give people the information and to feel confident when they go in to vote, that they’ve made the right decisions for themselves. This election is absolutely essential with both of these initiatives on there, because they affect our quality of life, and our neighbors and the services available for both visitors and residents.”

Speakers for this meeting will include representatives from the Cache Valley Center for the Arts and Zootah, who will discuss the RAPZ program and from the Open Space Advocacy Committee to discuss the new bond being proposed to help preserve open spaces in Cache Valley.

“I know that the Open Space Initiative, for instance, can feel a bit confusing,” she added. “While the committee has been working on it for months, I think the community has only learned about it fairly recently, and so it feels a bit rushed to some people in the communities. This is a chance to come and find out what it really means, to address any misconceptions about it, and then to help people know how to feel when they go in to vote come November, or by mail, of course here in October if they vote a little earlier.”
