PARADISE — Summer is not over yet, Paradise Trout and Berry Days just might be the unofficial wrap-up of the summer months, in Cache County anyway. Activities start Saturday, August 20th.

On KVNU’s For the People program on Thursday, Mandi Felici and Vanessa Borges told us about this year’s celebration, now in its 31st year. For those who might be unfamiliar, Felici talked about how it began

“Well, I think Roger Roundy was the one that started with the idea. He thought ‘what kind of community event can we create here in Paradise, what is Paradise about?’ So, we have White’s Trout Farm and we also have Weeks Berry Farm, and so he came up with the idea somehow: Trout and Berry Days. They started in about 1991; so last year we celebrated our 30th year,” Felici said.

And it continued through the heart of the pandemic.

Borges said the rodeo that is part of the events had an earlier start.

It was started by Judy and Gerald Haviland in Avon, Utah and every year they would hold a rodeo. They had the arena, they had bleachers, it was like an every year, we lived just down the road from them. I remember we would hop on the 4-wheelers and the side-by-sides or whatever we had at that time, and we’d cruise on up to Gerald and Judy’s house…and we would watch rodeo,” Borges explained.

It’s now at the Paradise Arena at 9600 South 100 East, and the rodeo gets started at 4:30 p.m. this Saturday, followed by a concert in the park by musician Daron Little on Saturday night. The day begins with a Pickleball Tournament from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

More events, the following Friday and Saturday, August 26th and 27th include the Pickleball Tournament Finals, the Karen Weeks Memorial 5K Run/Walk on the morning of the 27th.

Also, the famous Fire Department Breakfast, the Paradise Parade, the famous Trout Scramble, Berry Eating Contest and then the Trout Dinner with Berry Tart.
