NORTH LOGAN — A lot of things are happening in many cities and towns in northern Utah. This past Monday, North Logan had their groundbreaking for new city offices and a library expansion and renovation to include a community center.

On KVNU’s For the People program this past week, North Logan Mayor Lyndsey Petersen said the new buildings look to growth and city’s future.

“Initially, in the process, we just kind of had our wish list, this is what we’d like to have in city offices. First and foremost, a conference room that isn’t also a hallway, that‘s a big one; a mayor’s office, if we can fit one in. I currently share with the interns when I am in the office. So, we kind of had that wish list, and then we worked with our architects to get a plan and then from there we’ve had to kind of pare it down,” she said.

That is thanks to exorbitant building costs right now, so, Petersen said they settled on an 18,000 square foot facility with an unfinished basement they can grow into in the future.

She said the library will also benefit from the planned expansion.

“We’ve been using a room at the library for the city council for our city council room, I think that the library’s really excited to kick us out of that room and then expand into that area. The community center we envision that having a great room, that can be divided into smaller classrooms or it can be a place that the entire community can gather for big meetings or events.”

Petersen said when compared with other libraries in the state, North Logan Library is doing phenomenal for a city its size when it comes to programs.
