Cache County Treasurer said delinquent taxes way down from past years

Cache County Executive David Zook and Cache County Treasurer Craig McAllister talk with KVNU For the People host Jason Williams.

LOGAN — On KVNU’s monthly County Hour during the For the People program on Wednesday, Cache County Executive David Zook brought along Cache County Treasurer Craig McAllister.

Even though many people may not know who the county treasurer, or even the state treasurer, is, McAllister said when taxpayers are upset about what they owe they do become acquainted with him when the buck literally stops at his office.

We do a lot of teaching, and we do a lot of explaining and reasoning and helping people understand. That’s part of my job. That’s the delight also, is when you get someone who comes in, who is upset, because their value went up, their taxes went up, (asking) why do I have to pay to the schools, all the questions that everyone always has. But it’s nice to, at least, be able to explain the why. They may not agree with it, but at least they understand the why, so that it helps them to know what process they can take to get relief, or some help or some other options,” he explained.

McCallister also reminded the public that it was 99 working days (as of July 6th) until taxes are due.

He also brought in a large box of documents and explained what they were.

“This box that you see are some tax returns. We worked these and this was our return mail. So put that in perspective: everyone that was in that box years ago did not get their tax notice. (They are notices) that bounced back.”

But, he said, by comparison last year’s returned mail consisted of only eight to 10 mailings.

“So, you look at we’ve done, is we’ve given people the opportunity to make that choice. Of these people that were in this box, they didn’t get their tax notice because it got back to us, and we already have that information as the county. By giving them and working hard at getting addresses correct, you’re getting the delinquency, that’s come down significantly because people are getting their notices, and they’re happier.”

McCallister said there are some county treasurers who want people to go delinquent because there are penalties and interest and they are distributed as extra funds.

But he said his view on it is you give everyone the choice and they choose to make that, and if they pay late, they pay the penalty.

The ‘delight’ of explaining to a taxpayer how the assessor gave an arbitrary monetary value to the person’s property. 70% of Utahns can’t afford the median priced home. Now that interest rates are rising, that ratio will climb drastically. Cache county numbers have got to be higher because our household income is lower. Young people and recent graduates will not be able to afford a starter home even if they wanted to stay. But Zook, McCallister refuse to acknowledge their dishonest assessment values were never sustainable for the working citizens who actually live in the valley. Big smiles while applying the turd polish. Benefits only themselves. They should give themselves another raise…

A simple Google search would show Zook and McCallister that the median household income in Cache County Utah is $60,530. Another simple Google search would show the median priced home in Cache County is $459,000. Using the internet again, it’s easy to find out the median household income of Cache County can only qualify for a $180,000 priced home.
No wonder Zook and McCallister have such big smiles. They are legally extorting money from Cache County citizens through threat of violence. You dont pay your taxes, the sherrif shows up eventually. Pretty hard on the elderly on fixed incomes… But, Zook and McCallisters’ smiles are a ‘delight’.

Spot on, I don’t think many could have said it more eloquently. These “officials” are comparable to mobsters. How convenient they voted exorbitant raises for themselves for their shoddy job performance right before they literally rape the valley with taxes. These dirtbags just forced us to pay for the increases that invariably have resulted on their own taxes whilst we’re stuck with the bill. “After a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them [the people] under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security….” Never before have these words from the Declaration of Independence seemed more applicable and more appropriate than to the current train of abuses we the people have continued to endure on the local, state, and national level. These despots who pose as our “officials” and who are robbing us citizens blind need to go; I vote absolutely no confidence in any of them.

You either understand history or trust your government. You can’t do both. These two jacking up property values to generate revenue in the face of current inflation and promised interest rates of 8% by the end of year is extremely repulsive and dishonest.

Right, again. Which is also why our “leaders” don’t want citizens to understand history; why the government actually teaches our young impressionable minds that government bestows our rights upon us. Which is why mediocrity is praised as virtuous and why competition, individuality, and ambition are curtailed. Our government preaches that the United States of America is a democracy which is completely false as we live in a Constitutional Republic which is defined as rule of laws, versus a democracy which means mob rule. If people actually knew and exercised our God given, constitutionally protected rights we would be a free nation once again. But people refuse to see and understand history, they refuse to see that the current social and economic upheaval we are experiencing on a national (and local) level has all been done before, only this time these tactics of distract, divide, and conquer are being utilized and implemented worldwide. We are facing in the very near future a carefully constructed social and economic catastrophe that will utterly destroy our country, yet people would rather remain ignorant as if it were virtuous and indulge head-on into the very distractions that have been put in place in order for them to remain in their ignorance. The two treasonous frauds that have been highlighted in this article are a mere reflection of the national raping of our dollars, our freedoms, our way of life, and our minds, that is being implemented locally. Wake up people.

Best way to lower tax prices: make all religions pay property taxes. If the mormons had to pay property taxes our taxes would drop by soooooooooo much

    • Fed up July 12, 2022 at 11:07 am Reply

Holly, forcing taxes upon religious organizations may sound like a viable solution, however the catastrophic financial situation and the ensuing social collapse that will inevitably follow will not be prevented by collecting taxes on religious groups. Also, do you really think our government would utilize their taxes for anything positive for the community? Of course not. I highly recommend that people start researching the topics the mainstream media has labeled “disinformation”, I highly recommend people to look into the criminal activity being perpetrated on Americans by both democrats and republicans, Chris Wray and the FBI, big tech, big pharma, and the corroboration between the media that’s being used to bolster the lies of all of these organizations. Whether or not you want to believe what I have written is true is irrelevant as the truth exists irrespective of our acknowledgement of it or not; because you have shown to have an interest in the scheming and fraud of our government, I believe you have the ability and the courage to follow through with finding out what’s really going on. Check out what the World Economic Forum has in store for the world’s population, “You will own nothing, you will eat bugs, and you will like it,” that is a direct quote from Klaus Schwab who is the director of the WEF. Check out the Pfizer documents that were obtained from a FOIA request, and we’re mandated to be released by a federal judge. Check out the actual reasons why the Dutch farmers are currently protesting in the Netherlands. Check out the independent news outlets, they are self-supported or listener supported and are not beholdened to the six individuals’ political interests who own over 95 percent of the media worldwide. I sincerely hope you will take up this challenge. Thank you for your input.

hey look at that, you’re insane!

Apparently it was insane to assume you actually have the capacity to formulate a coherent sentence/argument. It seems you are comfortable in nourishing your obvious ignorance as you resort to the childish tactic of name-calling. Seems the final certification to determine “insanity” will be decided by future events that will unfold. Best wishes.

All the mormons I know pay their property taxes.

      • Holly July 13, 2022 at 10:10 am Reply

I mean the mormon buildings themselves. In Utah the mormons hold an outrageous amount of property and don’t pay a penny in property taxes

        • Fed up July 13, 2022 at 11:34 am Reply

How would “the mormon buildings themselves” go about paying property taxes? Just curious how you believe that your purposed action would be carried out by inanimate objects. Or are you referring to those who own the buildings to pay property taxes? Perhaps you mean the LDS Church leaders pay property taxes on each building even though the LDS Church is an organization that is statutorily protected as a 501c3 religious organization?

          • Holly July 14, 2022 at 8:10 am

Not too smart are you? Yes, I mean the Mormon corporation should pay taxes along with every other religion
