Utah-based hurricane expert says he is a climate change skeptic

Bill Pekny, an author and climate scientist who lives in Midway, Utah, has written a book titled “A Tale of Two Climates: One Real, One Imaginary”.

A Tale of Two Climates: One Real, One Imaginary

He says the title means the climate is “natural” — what he calls the “real climate” — and the other “imaginary” one is the scenario of climate change.

“I tried to tell it in an easy to read manner, what the other side of the story is,” Pekny explains. “That being not the one that you see in the media so much these days, rather the one from a scientist who’s lived with meteorology and science my whole career.”

He says our hurricane season lasts from the first of June to the first of November.

“And we’re just now in late August-early September coming into the peak of the hurricane season,” Pekny explains. “And that’s just from historical records, and the way we measure the length of the hurricane season.

“So, we’re getting there. It did start off this year like last year to be fairly active early on. But it’s tailed off.”

He says that at the end of last week, right before tropical storms Fred and Grace converged on the Eastern United States.

He says data over the years shows there has been no increasing trend in tropical cyclone or hurricane numbers, but he says if you watch enough national news coverage you might think differently.

I’m not sure this is a news story as written. It reads more like a book review with comments from the author.
I would think the journalist would do a quick internet search to determine if there is any scientific evidence to refute Mr. Pekny’s claims and offer some context for the story, you know, to make it a news story and not just an advertisement for a book.

Wow! Someone really needs to be medicated! Not because you have a different opinion, but because you clearly have anger issues. If you are so exhausted by your surroundings then leave. I doubt anyone would stop you.
CVD, this gentleman’s comment needs to be removed! Purely for the inappropriateness!

Oh dear, CVD. Is this what local news has come to? It might be best to add “Advertisement” in small letters after the title. Maybe even a link to Amazon would help.

This story is as credible as the big foot story the Herald Journal ran in July 2020.

Even the Des News was competent enough to at least run input from credible sources countering “Brother Pekny’s” claims:
“I don’t want to silence him, but information like this causes real harm,” said Logan Mitchell, a research assistant professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Utah.

“I would urge people to find information from reputable places. … You know they say a lie can travel around the world before truth has a chance to lace up its boots.”

Please stick to sports if you can’t give a serious topic the time it deserves.

I listen to real scientist with evidence backed up by peer reviewed papers and research not sleazy book salesmen who barf out sudo-science and watch Fox News all day.

Wow, Craig, please don’t quit your announcing job. This is 3rd grade level journalism at best. No sources cited. No background on the Bill Pekny listing his credentials on the subject. It’s astoundingly awful, considering our very own Utah State University has a Climate Science department, who you easily could have interviewed for an alternative viewpoint. This is an embarrassing piece from Cache Valley Daily.

I can see you got the attention of the crying liberals. lol
If I was you crying liberals, I would cancel my CVD membership, and demand a full refund.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. You can’t find a story on petty much any site that gives a true differing opinion because there is no such thing as true journalism on either side of the political bias. It is all just click-bait now. Apparently, it worked well here. How can you lambast this book when you have no idea what it says? Read it and then tell us why it is false, otherwise you are no better than Mr. Hislop.
