Deaths of two Cache Valley residents included in UDOH weekend reports

Weekend COVID reports from the Utah Department of Health (UDOH) included the coronavirus deaths of two Cache Valley residents. One, a man older than 85 who was living at a long-term facility, died Saturday and a woman between the ages of 45-64 who was not hospitalized at the time of death. She passed away Sunday.

Utah’s list of coronavirus deaths during the pandemic grew to 2,363 with four deaths Saturday and eight more  Sunday.

UDOH numbers indicate that 2,022 people tested positive for coronavirus in the last seven days and 226 of them had been vaccinated. They are referred as “breakthrough cases,” those who have a positive test more than 14 days after they had the vaccine.

One of the eight deaths reported Sunday was a breakthrough death. UDOH reported four vaccinated people have died of COVID-19.

Utah has seen nearly 414,000 positive coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic, including 351 cases in the Saturday report and 282 on Sunday.

With 22 new cases Saturday and 25 Sunday, there have been 22,301 cases in northern Utah. Of that total 21,993 are classified as “recovered.”

The number of fully immunized people in the Bear River Health District is 51.6 percent (67,093 people). That includes 54 percent in Cache County, 46.2 percent in Box Elder County and 47.2 percent in Rich County. A total of 144,275 doses have been administered in northern Utah.

About 2,500 people were tested since Saturday and total tests conducted were 3,673. Over 2.78 million Utahns have been tested the last 15 months. There have been 262,812 total tests in northern Utah, most of them (194,661) in Cache County.

The UDOH said Sunday more than 1.395 million Utahns are fully vaccinated and over the course of the pandemic over 2.8 million total vaccines have been administered statewide.

Statewide hospitalizations have risen again, from 201 Saturday to 215 Sunday. The 68 patients in intensive care are six more than Saturday. Since the start of the outbreak 17,418 Utahns have been hospitalized.

The Sunday report from Idaho shows 2,145 coronavirus deaths with 194,690 confirmed COVID-19 cases. In the three southeast Idaho counties case counts include 1,215 positive cases in Franklin County, 394 in Bear Lake County and 364 in Oneida County.
