SMITHFIELD — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released the exact location of the Smithfield Temple, which was announced in April 2021 by Church President Russell M. Nelson.

A press release Thursday morning explained the Smithfield Utah Temple will be constructed on a 13.3-acre site at the intersection of 800 West and 100 North. Plans call for a three-story temple of approximately 81,000 square feet.

The temple will be located on a plot of land owned by the Church, south of Birch Creek Elementary School and northwest of the Blue Sox baseball fields.

The Church also announced locations for future temple sites in Elko, Nevada and Casper, Wyoming.

Detailed design plans for the three temples are still being developed. The Church also said further information will be made public later.

Groundbreaking dates were also not released and are reportedly still being set. Project leaders will soon start working with city officials in each location on preliminary plans for the temples, and leaders will be filing public documents in the coming months.

Utah has 27 temples announced, under construction, under renovation or in operation. In addition to the temple in Smithfield, temples have been announced or are under construction in Ephraim, Layton, Lindon, Orem, St. George (Red Cliffs), Saratoga Springs, Syracuse, Taylorsville and Tooele (Deseret Peak).

How are they going to show there force of dominance over the state if it’s not on the foothills?

I think it is wonderful that they are building a temple where they are. I’m excited to see.

KA- beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I’m sure property values aren’t going down in the neighborhood…

Billybob- “show THEIR force,” well if this is a free country, they have a right to build it.

Another building to dupe the mentally ill. It’s odd to me that we wouldn’t allow someone or some group to trick a mentally handicapped person for their time or money, but we allow these church organizations to continue to con “simple” people. The sheep are delicate and easily manipulated. It makes me sad for them.

Kind of like you still wearing your mask in your car.

Imagine moving to an area founded by the LDS and spewing this rhetoric. Perhaps you’d be happier on the fecal infested streets of LA or San Francisco…

Regardless, I now take great pleasure in the knowledge that you are offended by these temples. Poor little snowflake gonna melt, LOL!

I hope they build a new rode into it from the north and not completely congest that narrow highway.. its already a mess with the park right there..

Of course the comments are filled with hate. Regardless of your personal beliefs, what good does it do anybody to speak so harshly about this particular religious organization? If you don’t subscribe to their way of life, fine, just go on living your life. No need to be hateful.

Yeah can’t have people spewing hate like when people tell other people that gay people shouldn’t have the same rights as everyone else!
