LOGAN — A 19-year-old Hyrum man has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a young girl last Christmas. Barrett T. Lebow accepted a plea deal that could keep him from serving anymore jail time.

Lebow participated in a virtual hearing, Monday afternoon in 1st District Court, appearing by web conference. He pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, amended to a class A misdemeanor.

Cache County Deputy Attorney Dane Murray said Lebow molested the victim for several years prior to being arrested. The defendant was an acquaintance of the girl, and later confessed to the sexual abuse to a counselor, who reported it to law enforcement.

Lebow spoke only briefly during Monday’s hearing, telling the court he was guilty.

Public defender Mike McGinnis said as part of the plea deal, prosecutors agreed not to ask for more jail time at sentencing.

Lebow is out of jail after posting $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced in September.

I’m sorry, but I know for a fact that his victim has a life sentence ahead of her. We NEED harsher punishments for the offenders, and better resources for the victims.

Totally agree. I’d even be for forced labor for pedophiles. Let them pay for the victims counseling.

I understand the desire for the Cache Valley Daily to shame the molesters. There was probably a time about 30 years ago where it was actually a public service. Today with the growth in the valley the public shaming is not effective as a deterrent.

Instead with The CVD focus on the molesters there is a skewed perception of the valley. My mother in law pointed out recently that it seems that the entire Cache Valley is just Mormons, perverts, or both. While in reality, the number of reported molestations per capita is less than the national average.

So maybe the cvd could and should focus on the judges, who are giving out these lenient sentences to the perverts. Instead of tarnishing the reputation of the entire valley.
