Cache County sees largest COVID-19 single-day case increase since start of pandemic

LOGAN — Health officials announced the largest single-day increase of COVID-19 cases in Cache County Wednesday afternoon. The 10 new cases represented 12 percent of the overall 86 new patients reported for the entire state since Tuesday.

The Bear River Health Department’s daily report stated that of the 10 patients in Cache County, seven were between the ages of 18-60 and three were older than 60. None of the new cases have required hospitalization. The new numbers increase the total, cumulative number in northern Utah to 115. There have been a total of 89 cases in Cache County, 26 in Box Elder County and none in Rich County.

BRHD officials explained that the number of patients in northern Utah who have recovered from the virus remained at 78. It includes all individuals who have been fever free at least three days without the use of fever reducing medications, have improvement in respiratory symptoms, and at least 10 days since symptoms first began or a positive test occurred.

Four more deaths were reported by the Utah Department of Health, increasing the total number of fatalities to 105. Two were women from Weber County who were residents of long-term care facilities. One was over the age of 85 and the other was between the age of 60 and 85.

Another person who died was a man from Utah County, between the age of 60 and 85 and was hospitalized when he died. The fourth death was a woman from Salt Lake County who was between the age of 18 and 60 and was hospitalized when she died.

The department of health’s report confirmed the new virus cases represented a 1 percent growth increase. Of the 200,626 total tests conducted in Utah so far, 4.3 percent were positive for COVID-19.

The Idaho Department of Health continues to report no positive cases of the virus in Franklin, Bear Lake or Oneida counties. There have been a total of 2,699 cases reported and 81 deaths.

Any one of these new cases could be someone who brushed past me in the store while not wearing a mask. How many people are non-mask wearing people trying to kill? I do wear a mask, but that mostly protects them from me.

If you are worried, order your groceries online. Walmart will load them into your car then you won’t have to get upset!

Brilliant! too bad I wasn’t looking for groceries, and and what I was looking for wasn’t listed on the web app. But your advice is a life changer for me. Thank you! Isn’t it a relief that I am the only person in Utah that the virus might kill?

Well Eshner, sounds like you may need to find something else that works to assuage your insecurities and fear of contracting this “virus,” best wishes.

Esther, thank you for your concern. The world needs more people that care about other people. But FYI, COVID-19 is in fact a virus. You didn’t say what you think it is, but a virus is different than say, a bacterium. Have someone teach you how to use an internet search engine if you are interested in learning what a virus is. But don’t be embarrassed – most people have at minimum a high school or college education before they really understand things this complicated. Try to have a positive, can-do attitude, and before you know it you will have an inkling or two!!!

So by those numbers, the odds of a person getting it and it being the cause of one’s demise are pretty dang slim.

I still don’t understand all the hype that’s been generated about it and the fear that it’s been causing some poor souls.

Darrin, please put some effort into understanding. Find some unbiased sources of information. Read. Think. I’m not in a state of fear, but I have worked in enough research labs to understand what is going on with the pandemic. People not taking the pandemic seriously = major outbreaks.

When I go to stores now, there is hardly anyone wearing masks. I get that things are reopening, but wouldn’t it be better to still be cautious? I suppose there can’t be a second wave if the first wave never stops. Also, why are the ages shown as 18-60? That is a huge gap and can be misleading. The person could be 60 and die, but all we see is 18-60.

Good point! 60 is very different than 18 in how we think of this disease, and the typical ability of a younger immune system. They should break the age groups up more!
It reminds me of when I became single again, and at 32, started to date a little. Different singles events had either 20-30, or over 30. That meant I was in the same dating group as 60, and the 60 year olds really liked that! Age can make a difference. 🙂

People are getting too relaxed about Covid now, for no good, scientific reason. Social distancing works (yes, I know we can’t do it forever but we can still be careful). Wearing masks works (but now it’s become a political issue which is ridiculous because it’s actually about public health). Please be careful – we all want to resume normal activities, but if we can practice common sense and kindness, it will benefit everyone.
