8 more COVID-19 cases found in Bear River Health District, caused by community spread

LOGAN – The largest one-day increase in COVID-19 cases in the Bear River Health District — 8 — was recorded in the 24-hour period between mid-day reports on Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday night three new cases were found and five more were reported Thursday morning. The new totals include 15 cases in Cache County and nine in Box Elder County. Rich County has not reported any cases.

A contributing factor to the big jump in case numbers resulted from a healthcare provider in a small family practice who went to work and wasn’t feeling well, but continued to work while sick, and exposed patients.

BRHD officials said that situation did not account for all of the new cases the last 24 hours.

BRHD issued a statement explaining the procedures that were followed.

“Quick action of our epidemiology team started a thorough and intense investigation, working through (Wednesday) night to contact any person who had possible exposure,” the statement read. “As part of this tracing we have identified 10 people who are symptomatic who are being tested and are isolated at home, and 46 individuals have been quarantined. This is the same process we follow any time we have a confirmed case.”

BRHD spokesperson Holly Budge issued a familiar message: “In any situation, please don’t work, and it doesn’t matter your profession. If you are sick, please do not go to work.”

“This recent case demonstrates the importance of staying home when you are sick,” said Bear River Health Executive Director Lloyd Berentzen. “One person not staying home while sick has resulted in more than 50 people being either isolated or quarantined.”

The Department of Health’s Thursday report indicates 1,074 COVID-19 cases, 21,065 people tested, 100 hospitalizations with the virus and seven deaths due to COVID-19.

More socialistic agenda to get rid of Trump…Bunch of panic over a mild flu. wake up people to what’s really on…Fear brings on

It’s moronic attitudes like yours that have led to the exponential increase of this disease. Mild flu? Why don’t you do little research outside of your wing-nut sources and witness the thousands suffering and dying a result of the “mild flu” and ineffectual leadership of your dear leader Trump. You go head a practice your liberty, but when it interferes with the health and well-being of the community, as witnessed in the doctor’s office above, you’re infringing upon the rights of others. This flu is as democratic as it gets. It doesn’t care if you’re a Democrat, Republican, Independent, etc… It’s contagious, just like your stupidity.

I disagree with this statement. In a free society YOU are responsible for yourself. Nobody else is responsible for you Mike. Just you, and hopefully your family. It’s pretty convenient/selfish to enjoy liberty when things are going good then dismiss it when things take a turn.
So go wrap yourself in bubble wrap and put on your bike helmet and ball up in the corner. Just know that you are responsible for yourself. When this blows over you can immigrate to a place that you can expect to take care of you. You might think the trade offs are worth it.

This is, at minimum, five times more dangerous than the flu and is much easier to spread. Something like 15-20% of people that get it have to be hospitalized. Hospitals are running out of room in hard-hit areas. If all they can treat are coronavirus patients, there’s no one available to treat heart attacks, strokes, car crashes, etc.

This is not the flu. Anyone who says it’s the flu, Susan, is lying to you or they don’t understand it.

Not everything in this world revolves around Trump. Even Trump is saying it could kill upwards of a hundred thousand Americans. This is deadly serious. Please don’t minimize it.

A “mild flu” wouldn’t force schools and Universities to close down their campuses and have them resort to doing online classes instead. A mild flu wouldn’t suggest their students go home and also give them refunds on housing and meal plans. A mild flu wouldn’t cause New York to have 397 deaths today when the day isn’t even over yet. This isn’t a mild flu at all. Maybe read and do your own research instead of stating your opinions as if they are facts because you’re clearly uninformed.

Sickness didn’t close down schools and colleges; FEAR of sickness, and fear of being shamed did

Look at new sources from other countries. They all report a spreading pandemic, overwhelmed health care systems, and deaths. There is no reason for other countries to create stories as propaganda to undermine Trump. If your news sources are telling you anything different than what you are seeing from other countries, then you really need to reconsider where you get your information.

Actually Susan, I do believe you are correct. Some people see things that other people don’t as they are fed garbage on their tv’s, radio, etc. But if you speak out they will label you crazy, but in the end you will be proven correct!

You think that a disease in which your lungs become stiff and not allow oxygen in is a mild flu? The death rate for COVID 19 is much higher than the flu.

How irresponsible and selfish of this doctor, especially during this time. I hope to God they lose their license and face criminal charges. As a healthcare provider they of all people should know better not to work when sick. And this genius decided to go into work anyway, exposing patients who came to them for medical needs, and then the patients unknowingly exposed more people. Imagine being one of the patients and getting a call saying their freaking doctor exposed them, what a nightmare. Shut down this “family practice” of clearly incompetent and selfish “professionals.”

    • Ttunac April 3, 2020 at 12:53 pm Reply

Knee jerk reaction. How long has this doctor been helping people? And now you want to cancel him?
Go sit in the corner while the adults talk.

Are you serious Susan Greene???? Ridiculous. This is real and serious.

  • Voter April 3, 2020 at 12:22 pm Reply

The only way we’re going to stop this pandemic is test everyone, and isolate those who are positive. If you’re negative you may go back to work. Surely, the cost of the tests is far less than letting the economy collapse.

I still believe that Our great president’s hunch will be correct. It will just go away in April and his administration has it all control. He will not wear a mask because he is the chosen one. He will be recorded as the greatest and most Honest president in history. He should fire that impish doctor and lead the nation as he was chosen to do.
