LOGAN — A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for an 18-year-old Hyrum man arrested last year on suspicion of sexually abusing a young girl. Barrett T. Lebow was booked early Christmas morning into the Cache County Jail and later released on bail.

Lebow was in 1st District Court Tuesday afternoon. He has been charged with one count of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony.

Public defender Bryan Galloway requested the preliminary hearing, when a judge will determine whether Lebow will be bound over for trial on the charge. He explained that he’d lengthy discussions with prosecutors, attempting to work out a plea agreement.

Judge Angela Fonnesbeck scheduled the hearing for April 8.

Lebow didn’t speak during Tuesday’s court appearance. He kept his head down and only nodded, when asked if he would be able to attend the April hearing.

Prosecutors claim Lebow abused the alleged victim for several years. The girl was an acquaintance of the suspect and the abuse continued until he was arrested.

Lebow is out of jail after posting $10,000 bail. He could face up to 15-years in prison if convicted.
