Box Elder County Commissioner decides against bid for U.S. House seat

BOTHWELL – Box Elder County Commissioner Stan Summers has decided against a bid for the U.S. House of Representatives.

In a Facebook post Wednesday, Summers said “…this is not the time for my family and I to run for this seat.”

The two-term county commissioner had considered running for the 1st Congressional district seat now held by Republican Rob Bishop.

Instead, he said he looks forward to continue working in his current capacity and will consider running for a third term.

“I absolutely love being your county commissioner. I am passionate about our community, and its crucial and exciting progress,” he said.

U.S. Rep. Rob Bishop will retire when his term ends this year. First elected in 2002, the Republican will have served nine terms.
