LOGAN – Al’s Sporting Goods is growing and owners of the Logan-based company have set their sights on a new location in Idaho Falls.
“This opportunity came up and it felt right,” said Jason Larsen, President of Al’s Sporting Goods.
Larsen said they purchased the former 30,000 square foot Toys-R-Us building at 2395 East 17 Street in Idaho Falls and anticipate opening sometime in September, 2020.
“We’re real excited. It’s a great location,” he said. “It’s right in the heart of the shopping district and we love the location and the community. We can’t wait to get open.”
The family owned-and-operated sporting goods retailer has been a mainstay in Logan since its founding in 1921 by Alvin Moroni Larsen.
According to a press release, Larsen borrowed $500 using only a $10 Mexican coin and a handshake as collateral to purchase inventory for a cycling and fishing store. His shop developed into the oldest full line sporting goods retailer in the state of Utah.
“We are passionate about what we do,” explained Jason Larsen. “We love the outdoors. We love helping people get outdoors and I think the Idaho Falls market is uncannily similar to Cache Valley. It’s a beautiful community and I think the community will love it.”
“For decades we have been looking for a golden opportunity in Idaho Falls and we finally found it,” Kris Larsen, CEO of Al’s, stated in a press release. “We have many friends and longtime customers from southeastern Idaho. When this opportunity arose, we jumped on it quickly.”
The store in Idaho Falls will be the third in the chain. Al’s opened a second location in Orem in 2017.
