LOGAN — Police have arrested a 28-year-old man who is suspected of stabbing and killing his mother, Debra Ann Andrews, at her North Logan apartment. Shawn Ryan Andrews was arrested Sunday and booked in the Cache County Jail on murder and obstruction of justice offenses.
North Park Police Interim Chief Ulysses Black said officers responded to the North Pointe Apartments, 1580 N. 200 E., Saturday at 3:15 p.m. Evidence showed that Debra Andrews was the victim of at least one stab wound. Efforts to revive her was unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead.
Debra Andrews’ body was transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office. An autopsy is planned to determine the cause and manner of death.
Shortly after arriving on the scene, police began searching for a white male in his 20’s. He was described as having black hair, wearing black clothing and may have had a jacket wrapped around his arm.
Black explained that evidence located during the investigation led detectives to Shawn Andrews, as being the person responsible for Debra Andrew’s death. Officers are still trying to piece together the details of what lead up to her murder.
Police believe there is no evidence indicating any ongoing threat to the community.
Detectives from North Park Police in partnership with Logan City Police Department, Smithfield City Police Department, the Utah State Crime Lab, and the Special Bureau of Investigation helped conduct interviews and process the crime scene.
