LOGAN – Logan City and Logan Downtown Alliance are kicking of this year’s 2019 Christmas season with an official Center Street Grand Opening, an archway ribbon cutting, a three-entry horse-drawn parade, tree lighting and the arrival of Santa Claus on Saturday, November 30th.
The festivities will begin at 4 p.m. with the parade and a program to be held on Center Street between Main Street and 100 West.
“Everything has fallen into place perfectly,” said Gary Saxton, director of the Downtown Alliance. “Now, we just need to make sure we haven’t missed anything.”
Center Street will be closed between Main Street and 100 West at 2 p.m. in preparation of the events.
The Logan High School band and choir will be preforming Christmas carols during different parts of the program.
At 4 p.m., the horse drawn parade will begin at 200 West Center and travel east to Main Street.
“We are planning to have 3,000-5,000 people enjoying Logan’s first parade and tree lighting ceremony,” Saxton said on KVNU’s For the People program Thursday. “A lot of fun things will happen downtown.”
Entries for this year’s parade will include a six-horse Highpoint Clydes carriage carrying Logan Mayor Holly Daines and the 2018 Miss Cache Valley, Samantha Bell as “Queen of Winter.” Next, will be Zootah’s reindeer with Disney’s Frozen characters Anna, Elsa and Kristof. The last entry will be a two-horse fire truck carrying Santa Claus.
“It will be a place kids want to be,” Saxton said. “To celebrate, maybe, a new future for downtown Logan. Going forward, for the future of downtown there will be a lot of fun things.”
After the parade, Mayor Daines will welcome Santa, who will flip the switch for the tree lighting ceremony.
Large candy ornaments will be unveiled at Bluebird Candy Company located at 75 West Center.
Doors to the Utah Theatre will open at 5 p.m. for a grand appearance of Santa at 5:30, followed by a free screening of A Christmas Story at 7:30 p.m. for the first 350 children.
The annual Cache Valley Civic Ballet’s performance of the Nutcracker will be held at the Ellen Eccles Theatre later that evening at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee at 1:30. Ticket information can be found at cachearts.org.
