4A football playoff pairings announced

LOGAN – The final RPI rankings of the season were announced Saturday by the Utah High School Activities Association and it reveals all Region 11 teams get to host their first games of the playoffs.

The Sky View Bobcats (8-1) have been ranked #2 in the state for several weeks and that is where they remain at the conclusion of the regular season. Green Canyon (7-3) had been right behind them for several weeks, but after Wednesday’s loss to Woods Cross, the Wolves drop to #4. Those are the only two schools from Region 11 that will not have to play next week.

The Mountain Crest Mustangs (4-6) had been at the #10 spot for several weeks, but their loss to 5A Bountiful dropped them to #11, just missing the cut for a first round bye. A win over 6A Clearfield pushed Bear River (4-6) up to the #12 spot in the rankings, and not far behind are the Riverhawks (3-7) who stunned 5A Viewmont in extra time. Ridgeline ends the season #14 in the standings. The Logan Grizzlies (2-7) did not play a Wednesday game, but it didn’t seem to hurt the Grizzlies because they finish the season ranked #16, which is important because they are the last team to be able to host a first round game.

The 1st round playoff pairings are as follows:

#2 Sky View (1st round bye, will play the winner of Cedar Valley and Canyon View on Friday, Nov. 1)

#4 Green Canyon (1st round bye, will play the winner of Cedar and Crimson Cliffs on Friday, Nov. 1)
