Town hall meeting to discuss transportation and gas tax

LOGAN – Transportation will be the topic of discussion Wednesday night during a town hall meeting at the Historic Cache County Courthouse in downtown Logan.

State Senator Scott Sandall, R-District 17, will be conducting the meeting scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Sandall and representatives from the Utah Department of Transportation and Cache Valley Transit District will be on hand to talk about projects currently in the works and “to hear opinions on how we want to fund transportation needs in the future,” said Sandall.

The town hall is the third of four held by area legislators as a way to keep residents in Cache Valley informed on issues affecting their lives.

“The town hall is a really important one,” said Representative Dan Johnson, R-District 4. “Infrastructure is so important to the state and it affects our lives. It’s a very complex issue that involves everyone in our state.”

“The way we fund our transportation needs is going to impact every person,” according to Sandall. “Gas tax is not keeping up as we get more efficient vehicles and we drive more miles. We are going to have a different funding model and it’s important for (the public) to tell us what model they would like.”

The next town hall meeting, scheduled for October 16, will discuss education.

Your formula, tax revenues vs “keeping up” is foolhardy and clever, but very deceitful.
