The Municipal Primary Election is days away. Have you mailed your ballot?

LOGAN – It’s not unusual for municipal elections to have a lower turnout than other elections. Nevertheless, the City of Logan has seen an uptick in voter turnout since it began conducting elections using vote by mail.

City Recorder Teresa Harris is hoping to see the trend continue in next week’s Primary Election.

We are receiving ballots each and every day and it’s been steady,” she said.

While it has been steady, Harris admits there is usually a higher turnout for the general election.

“It seems to be lighter, especially during the summer months. People are still on vacation and school hasn’t started. Compared to other years when we haven’t done vote by mail, it’s definitely gone up,” she said.

This is the third election the city has offered vote by mail and Harris said people are becoming more familiar with the process, which ultimately results in fewer issues and more votes.

“I haven’t had near the calls, questions or problems than before,” she said. “People are getting used to it.

With the Primary Election days away, Harris is reminding residents that mailed ballots must be postmarked by Aug. 12. Ballots returned to city hall in person must be dropped off by 8 p.m. on Aug. 13. A drop box is located on the main floor of Logan City Hall or outside the building at 290 N. 100 W.

If you prefer to vote the traditional way, voting booths will be set up at city hall on the day of the Primary Election.

On the evening of the election, Harris said the public is welcome to hang out in the council chambers at city hall and wait for the final tally. Results will also be posted on the City’s Facebook page and website. It could take up to 10 days to get the official vote count.
