Saxton gives Center Street update

LOGAN – The construction zone is now fenced off with chain link fencing on Center Street between 100 West and Main Street in downtown Logan.  Crews are working on the north side of the street starting at 100 West proceeding east towards Main. On KVNUs For the People program on Thursday, Logan Downtown Manager Gary Saxton said that by Friday they should be done removing all of the concrete sidewalk on that side. Then next week they’ll begin on the south side of the street.

“As I drove by today they were just establishing the gravel pathway that will be in place for pedestrians to walk up and down and get inside the front doors of  those businesses on the north side of the street. They’re really conscious about making it really easy for pedestrians to still navigate that street without the sidewalks,” he explained.

Saxton said about a month from now they will establish some barricades on both sides of the street.

We want to decorate that barricade with public art. If you go on our website right now, you can register to install a piece of artwork on this fence, and we’ll keep that artwork up. Then, what we’ll do is we’ll pick one or two art entries every week and give $50 to each one to spend on Center Street.”

You can get more information at www.logandowntown.org. Saxton said when the project is completed in November, there will be more open walking space and Center Street itself will not be quite as wide, losing about 10 feet total. But, he said there will only be about seven parking spaces less than before.

I’d like to register to have my art work on a section of the barricade fence.
