Utah State men’s basketball set to play Florida on December 21

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men’s basketball will meet the Florida Gators on Saturday, December 21, inside the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla., as part of the 26th annual Metro by T-Mobile Orange Bowl Basketball Classic.

Florida finished the 2018-19 season with an overall mark of 20-16 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after handing Nevada a 70-61 defeat in Des Moines, Iowa. The Gators were recently picked No. 4 in ESPN’s Way-Too-Early Top-25 poll for 2019-20 and will be led by sophomore point guard Andrew Nembhard, who averaged 8.0 points and 5.4 assists per game. In all, Nembhard totaled 194 dimes a season ago, the fourth most in a single season in Florida history. The Gators also added a top-10 freshman signing class, not to mention Virginia Tech graduate transfer Kerry Blackshear Jr. Blackshear averaged 14.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game a season ago, earning second-team all-ACC honors.

The Aggies and Gators will be joined at the event by Florida State and South Florida, playing in the home of the NHL’s Florida Panthers. Fans can purchase a single ticket for both games with tip-off times and ticket prices to be released at a later date.

The game against Florida will mark the second SEC opponent for the Aggies in 2019-20, as Utah State will face LSU on Friday, Nov. 22, in the Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic. USU and Florida have only played one other time in school history, a 60-58 victory for the Gators in Lahaina, Hawaii, as part of the Maui Invitational during the 1999-2000 season.
