Keegan Garrity believes smart growth is key to Logan’s future

LOGAN – Living in five of the seven different neighborhoods in Logan gives you the opportunity to meet a lot of people, according to Keegan Garrity. “I’ve also gotten to know some of the issues that matter to the neighborhoods,” he said.

Garrity is one of seven candidates running for three open seats on the Logan City Council.

As the co-chair of the Woodruff Neighborhood Council, Garrity was encouraged by family and friends to become more involved in local government and jump into the city council race.

According to Garrity, he is running on three major points: Preserving the integrity of Logan neighborhoods through smart growth, increasing the efficiency of government programs and communications, and continuing to build a community that innovates in business.

He would also like to see the city be more effective in how it communicates with residents. Garrity said he has talked with a number of residents who aren’t aware of many of the issues and challenges facing the city.

One thing I would like to improve on, here, is being better about leveraging technology to get the word out,” he said. “I know not everyone wants to go to a two hour council meeting or interview multiple parties to understand what’s going on. But that’s something that I’m interested in. I don’t mind bringing that information to people and getting their opinion on it.”

Garrity has been meeting with local business leaders and going door-to-door in an effort to “let people know who I am and what I stand for,” he said.

“As the city grows, it’s important we preserve the things we love about it as we make improvements,” said Garrity. “My kids go to public school here, take swim lessons at the Aquatic Center, and regularly visit the Logan Library. It’s a great community and I have an invested interest in ensuring Logan’s positive future.”

The married father of four has lived in Logan for 15 years and is a graduate of Utah State University. He currently works at Malouf where he is involved in strategic planning and execution. He also spends time volunteering with the Malouf Foundation.

This story is one in a series of profiles about the candidates running for Logan City Council. Cache Valley Daily will profile each of the seven candidates in an effort to give residents an opportunity to get to know those interested in being elected to public office.

The Primary Election, held August 13, will narrow the field down to six candidates. The General Election is November 5. Residents in Logan will be voting in the Primary Election by mail. Ballots for the Primary Election will be mailed out on July 23.

I’m so excited to see Keegan running for Logan City Council! You know those people that are smart, approachable, and just easy to like? That has been Keegan since day one when we met several years ago. I’ve enjoyed his continued friendship and hope to see him get voted in. Go Keegan!

Keegan is such a great listener and friend! I know he’ll do a fantastic job on city council and really do his best to represent the people of this city and put their needs above some of his own. He will be such a great asset for this growing community!

Smart growth will ruin neighborhoods and a city. Concentrate on fiscal responsibility.

Smart growth is fiscally responsible. Thus “smart”. Check out the information on this website.

Mr. Garrity states that he would like to preserve the things that are best about Logan while improvements are made. From what I can tell it appears he would have no personal gain from his position on the city council and since he is a tax payer, not a business owner or real estate investor, etc. I believe he does want to keep Logan a great place for his family to grow up.
