Iris John Jones

March 26, 1931May 22, 2019

Our angel mother, grandmother and aunt, Iris John Jones, passed away peacefully in her daughter’s home in Logan, Utah, Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at the age of 88. She was born in Garland, Utah on March 26, 1931 – to Ora H. and Geneva Hall John, the third of four children.

She devoted her life to serving and caring about others. Even while nearing the end of life she was asking if everyone was OK and happy. She most often put others before herself and would give the last piece of dessert away rather than have it herself. Everyone who was served a meal at her home was asked if they would like seconds or even thirds as she loved feeding everyone.

Iris was a hard worker and had a clean, organized home. She worked various jobs through the years, including at Thomas Market in Malad, Idaho, and while in her youth at a turkey factory plucking feathers! She was a good cook and enjoyed baking pies, homemade bread, cinnamon rolls and her beloved raisin-filled cookies.

As a child she helped with chores around the house like milking the cow, gathering wood and feeding the chickens and pigs. She helped her father plant and weed bounteous gardens. She helped her mom as a bottle washer with canning fruits and vegetables but was always glad when it ended. She also helped many others with their bottling as well. On the farm she rode the derrick horse, tromped hay during the hay season and helped pick up rock. She helped her sister with a big family of 6 children and also her parents in their home, especially in their later years.

She married Ervin R. Jones on September 14, 1951 in Portage, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple on August 20, 2005. They were blessed with two children, Michael Ervin and Jennifer. Iris was active in the LDS Church and held many positions.

Iris was preceded in death by her husband Ervin, her parents, and her sisters Kathryn (Woodrow) Clark and Hope (DeVon) Price. She is survived by her brother Ronald O. John, her son Michael, her daughter Jennifer (Andy) Smith, 6 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 30 at 12 noon in the Malad 5th Ward LDS Chapel, 20 South 100 West, Malad, Idaho.  Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10:30 – 11:45am prior to the service.
