Rachel Nardo named USU’s new Caine College of the Arts Dean

Rachel Nardo has been named dean of the Caine College of the Arts. Nardo joins USU from California State University, Office of the Chancellor, where she has served as the director of the multidisciplinary, international Summer Arts program for the past seven years. She will also hold an appointment as a faculty member in the Department of Music.

Recently named the new dean of Utah State University’s Caine College of the Arts, Rachel Nardo said on a visit to Logan nine years ago, when the new College was being created, she could see its potential on the Utah State campus.

“It’s a residential college; they had excellent standards and with the work of faculty and Dean Jessop it has become a jewel,” said Nardo.

She spent five years at the University of Utah (2007-2012) as a professor and as the first Beverley Taylor Sorenson Presidential Endowed Chair. Current Dean Craig Jessop will soon begin a year’s sabbatical after which he will return to the Department of Music as a faculty member.

“It’s such a wonderful opportunity because it’s ready to go into its next decade of growth,” she continued. “There’s nothing that has to be fixed — it’s perfect the way it is — but now it’s ready for growth. I was really excited to see this opportunity come open.”

Dr. Nardo’s official start date is July 1.

Nardo leaves California State University, Office of the Chancellor, where she gained experience in managing enrollment and recruitment, oversaw faculty development and evaluation, and assessed nearly 125 statewide and international arts courses and programs.
