LOGAN — A 22-year-old Logan man has been sentenced to prison for molesting a 7-year-old girl. Trisden Smith was ordered to serve at least 15 years-to-life in the Utah State Prison after previously confessing to the crime.

According to court records, Smith was sentenced in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. He previously pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.

Cache County Sheriff’s investigators learned about the crime in January, after the young victim told her mother about being molested. Smith was later arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail. He was being held on $200,000 bail.

Prosecutors claimed that Smith sexually assaulted the girl multiple times over several years. He was also considered to be a person of trust to the victim.

During Tuesday’s sentencing, Judge Brian Cannell also ordered Smith to pay restitution to the victim and complete anger management while incarcerated.
