Logan City may increase fees for recreation programs and other services

In an effort to help offset costs to deliver services and operate certain facilities in Logan, city leaders are considering an increase in fees to a number of recreation programs and services.

Parks and Recreation Director Russ Akina presented a proposed resolution to city councilmembers Tuesday evening.

The proposed boost would include fees associated with the Logan Aquatic Center, Logan Recreation Center, park pavilions, and recreation programs.

If the resolution passes, it will cost an additional $100 to reserve the Aquatic Center, a 20% hike. The fee will go from $500 – $600.

The cost for youth tackle football will jump from $80 – $100.

Most of the fees associated with youth programs such as basketball, football and the recreation center will increase by a few dollars. Reserving a park pavilion will cost anywhere from an additional $1 – $2.

Akina said the adjustment is necessary to help pay for an increase in wages and utility costs associated with running the programs and operating the facilities, among other things.

Akina emphasized, to his knowledge, there has not been an increase in fees since 2014.

If approved, the effective date for the park pavilion reservation fee will be April 15, 2020, the Aquatic Center reservation fee goes into effect for the 2020 swim season, and the recreation program fees will take effect July 1, 2019.

The proposed resolution, No. 19-23, is scheduled to come back before the Logan City Council on May 21st.
