A 65-year-old Franklin, Idaho, man who previously was convicted of sexually abusing a girl is back behind bars. Melvin G. Morrison was booked into the Cache County Jail Thursday night. He is being held on suspicion of felony lewd conduct with a minor.
Franklin County Sheriff David Fryar said deputies began to investigate Morrison after receiving a complaint from the victim’s family. The girl was allegedly an acquaintance of the suspect.
Court records show, Morrison was arraigned in Franklin County Magistrate Court Friday morning. He was charged with two felony counts of lewdness involving a child under 16-years of age.
Fryar said deputies have had prior involvements with Morrison. In 1991, he was convicted of sexually abusing a girl under 16-years-old.
During Friday’s arraignment Judge Eric Hunn scheduled a preliminary hearing for Morrison on April 24. During that time, he’ll determine whether prosecutors have sufficient evidence to bind the suspect over for trial.
Morrison remains in jail on $100,000 bail.
