New traffic light and crosswalk to be installed at Y-intersection

In an effort to improve vehicle and pedestrian traffic at the Y-intersection in south Logan, Cache Valley residents are asked to be patient while construction crews work in the area.

Beginning March 29 – April 4, crews are pouring foundations and working in the median islands installing a new traffic signal and crosswalk.

The new signal will be installed on the southbound US-91 area of the intersection, where none currently exists.

Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is advising motorists there will be lane and shoulder closures. The right turn from northbound US-91/HWY-89 to southbound SR-165 will be temporarily closed until the project is finalized.

To address increasing pedestrian traffic at the Y-intersection, a crosswalk will also be installed. Special audible crosswalk aids will be installed to help visually impaired pedestrians navigate the intersection.

When operational, UDOT said the signal will only be activated when a pedestrian pushes the button at the crosswalk.

Final crosswalk installation and traffic signal configuration will happened in the next several weeks.
