Mitt Romney says shutdown not ‘way to get things done’

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney says he doesn’t think using the government shutdown to push for funding for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border is the right way “to get things done.”

The Standard-Examiner newspaper reports the Utah senator made the comments Tuesday night in Farmington, Utah, during his first town hall since being elected. Romney said he supports beefing up barriers on the border, but would rather see government employees getting paid.

Romney said using the shutdown to push the border wall issue is “not effective” or “appropriate.”

The Republican and 2012 GOP presidential nominee has been critical of President Donald Trump, but during an appearance last week in Ogden he backed the president’s push for a border wall that’s led to the shutdown while chiding Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Mitt Romney, You are speaking out both sides of your mouth. The Democrats have no power with a government shutdown. Reopening the government places more power in the hands of the Democrats. To achieve a wall on the border, the shutdown is necessary. The Democrats can negotiate with or without a shutdown.. The only thing they are proving is how unwilling they are to find a plan that will work.

As for you, if you are going to support Trump in obtaining a border wall, then you need to support him, and not try to fence ride on important issues. However, nothing more can expected from you and I am not surprised by your mealy-mouthed stance. That is why I did not vote for you. Any thinking person would not have voted for you.

Surprise me, and give President Trump your full support.
