LOGAN — A 32-year-old Smithfield man has been arrested and charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a 17-year-old girl. Victor Torres was booked Wednesday afternoon into the Cache County Jail.

Cache County Sheriff Chief Deputy Matt Biloudeau said deputies began investigating Torres after the alleged victim’s mother learned about the relationship and reported it. They are still trying to determine how long it had been going on.

Court records show Torres was arraigned in 1st District Court Thursday afternoon. He appeared by video from jail, just after prosecutors filed charges against him. They include three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a teenager, one third-degree felony and two class A misdemeanors. The crimes allegedly occurred in July 2018.

Torres was found indigent and assigned a public defender. His bail was set at $7000 cash or bond. If he is able to post bail, Judge Thomas Willmore ordered the suspect to have no contact with the alleged victim or her family.

Torres could face up to five-years in prison if convicted. He was ordered to appear again in court January 10.

With all the Cache Valley updates I see each day. It is quite apparent that all communities need to work on protecting children and adults from the effects of pornography. Perhaps, law enforcement personnel could work towards getting legislation passed to fight this insidious evil.
