Deadline for high school Visual Arts Scholarship Competition approaching

The Utah State Senate is once again sponsoring a Visual Arts Scholarship Competition for high school-aged students in Utah. It’s the fifth year the state Senate has sponsored the scholarship competition.

The theme this year is INSPIRED UTAH. The competition encourages students to explore the people, cultures, communities, landscape and all that inspires them as residents of Utah. The competition is administered by the Utah Division of Arts & Museums. The selection committee is seeking two-dimensional, original visual art images of the people of Utah

In total, 25 scholarships will be awarded to Utah students. The scholarship awards of $5,000, $3,000, $1,000, $500 and $300 will be deposited into new or existing My529 accounts in the name of the student at the Utah Educational Savings Plan. Information about the art competition is available at artsandmuseums.utah.gov/senate-visual-art-competition. Students can see guidelines for submissions and will need to submit their work online. To ensure that artwork gets a fair critique from jurors, competition officials ask that students provide a high resolution image of the art. The deadline for submissions is Friday, January 11th.

Winning entries will be displayed at the Utah Capitol throughout the 2019 legislative session on the third-floor corridor. The piece that wins 1st place will remain featured in the Utah Senate suite.

The 25 winning students will be recognized during the 2019 legislative session and Arts Day on the Hill on Thursday, February 21st.

This competition is facilitated by the Arts Education Program of the Utah Division of Arts and Museums.
