LOGAN — A 20-year-old Logan man has been arrested and charged with sexting a 10-year-old girl. Guadalupe Vega-Cervantez was arrested Tuesday by FBI agents, who served a search warrant to his apartment. They allegedly found multiple images of child pornography on his phone.
Vega-Cervantez was arraigned in 1st District Court Thursday afternoon, appearing by video from the Cache County Jail. Prosecutors earlier had charged him with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a child, a second-degree felony.
State attorney Spencer Walsh told the court how Vega-Cervantez is alleged to have engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with the girl, who lives in Missouri. The two communicated through a social media app.
Judge Thomas Willmore assigned Vega-Cervantez a public defender. He also ordered him to appear again in court December 11.
Vega-Cervantez is originally from Corrine but was living in Logan while attending school. He spoke only briefly during the arraignment, asking the court to consider releasing him so that he could take his college finals.
Judge Willmore set bail at $100,000. He told Vega-Cervantez that if he was able to post bail, he is not allowed to have contact with anyone under 18-years-old. He also ordered him to have no access to the internet.
Vega-Cervantez could face up to 15-years in prison if convicted.
