LOGAN — A 25-year-old Logan man has admitted to having sex with a teenage girl. Miguel A. Sanchez-Rosario has accepted a plea deal that will cancel a December trial, and keep the victim from having to testify against her assailant.
Sanchez-Rosario appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. He pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a third-degree felony. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors agreed to drop the four remaining charges against him.
On June 13, a 17-year-old girl reported being raped by Sanchez-Rosario. She told police about meeting him on Snapchat sometime during the previous summer.
According to the juvenile, she had consensual sex with Sanchez-Rosario three times, but on the fourth occasion he raped her. She explained telling the defendant she was not interested in having sex while they were going for a drive.
She said Sanchez-Rosario parked the car in a secluded area in Providence. While there, he forced her to perform sex acts and then raped her.
During Tuesday’s court appearance, state attorney Jacob Gordon said he hesitated to work out a plea deal in the case. He explained that the victim’s family had asked him to resolve the case so they wouldn’t have to go to trial.
Through an interpreter, Sanchez-Rosario said he was willing to give up his right to a fair trial. He told the court he was guilty.
Sanchez-Rosario remains in the Cache County Jail and could face up to five-year in prison when he is sentenced.
Well if it ain’t one thing it’s another. Likely the courts in Logan will just give him 45 days in jail with work release as they just did in September.
