Police officers were called to a suicidal man at a North Logan restaurant Tuesday afternoon, just after 2 p.m.
According to a press release from the North Park Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Copper Mill Restaurant on report of a male with a knife. The 39-year-old Smithfield man had walked into the restaurant and was seated in the bar area.
Officers claim that when the hostess and bartender reentered the bar to serve the man, he took a knife and held it to his throat. Before the staff could react, the man used the knife to cut his throat.
The manager was able to pull the knife away from the man. The suspect then grabbed another knife that was on the bar and stabbed himself in the chest area.
The manager again was able to get the man to put the second knife down, and removed it from the area.
Officers arrived and found the suspect on the floor. They treated the man until paramedics arrived and transported him to the Cache Valley Hospital.
The man’s identity is being withheld. He reportedly underwent surgery for several non-life-threatening wounds.
