It’s the Weekend – August 23-26, 2018

There is another county fair and it’s back to school time for students. There are also a few big races, live music, and car carnage taking place this weekend.

Back to School

All of the local school districts have started classes this week. Please be mindful of kids going to and from school. Pay close attention to those crosswalks and school busses.

Incoming freshmen at USU have also returned to campus, with the rest of the student body arriving this weekend. Welcome back Aggies! Help welcome the newest class of USU students to the Aggie community by attending the Connections Luminary this Friday night. Meet on the Quad at 8:45 p.m. to receive your blue “A” lantern and help these incoming freshmen kickstart their first year of college in Logan.

Box Elder County Fair and Rodeo

Check out all the displays, enjoy local entertainment and great rodeos at the Box Elder County Fair this weekend. Thursday is Family Night at the rodeo, Friday is Tough Enough to Wear Pink Night and on Saturday it’s Patriot Night for the rodeo. Pre-rodeo events begin at 6:45 and rodeos begin at 8 each evening.

Apple Days

Saturday is Apple Days in River Heights. The children’s bike rodeo is at 2, Kid’s Parade at 3, and the main parade is at 4. There will be entertainment and activities taking place throughout the afternoon at Ryan’s Place Park.

Job Fair

Bridgerland Technical College and the Department of Workforce Services are teaming up for the Connections Career Fair, Thursday from Noon to 3 p.m. at Bridgerland Technical College. More than 50 different employers will be on site.

Sports

It’s a big showdown between in-state rivals on the Chuck and Gloria Bell Field. The USU women’s soccer team battles the University of Utah Friday at 4 p.m. The first 100 in attendance get free stuff.

Friday night lights are back with high school football! Sky View, Ridgeline and Green Canyon all have home games this Friday night at 7. A full schedule of those games, and where to listen, can be found here.

Canyon Jams

Live music in beautiful Logan Canyon is always fun. Canyon Jams continues this Friday with New Folk Revival, performing from 6-10 p.m. at 2nd Dam.

Races

It’s called the Cache Valley Century ride, but it does offer 35, 60 and 100 mile routes this Saturday. The bike ride goes throughout Northern Utah and Southern Idaho with proceeds going to support Common Ground Outdoor Adventures.

If biking is not your thing, but running is, the Altra Top of Utah Half Marathon is this Saturday. Beginning 7 miles up Blacksmith Fork Canyon, runners will descend through the canyon, go through Nibley and Millville, and finally stop in Providence at Zollinger Park. Feel free to cheer the runners on along the route.

Rummage Sale Fundraiser

St. John’s Episcopal Church in Logan is hosting a rummage sale this Saturday from 8 a.m. to Noon. All the proceeds will go to help preserve the historic chapel and connected buildings.

Blue Goes Green

Find out about USU’s sustainability programs and have a great time enjoying First Dam this Saturday. Blue Goes Green from 2-4:30 p.m. Enjoy Aggie Ice Cream, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, Pokestops and fellow Aggies.
