The organization is reaching a celebratory milestone next month. The self-help house building program will celebrate their 400th home on Sept. 6, at 2 p.m. at the Hyrum Civic Center. Lieutenant Governor, Spencer Cox, who champions the affordable housing cause, will speak at the gathering. The public is invited.

The 400th home is one of 200 homes to be built on a parcel of land in Hyrum.

“We purchased 80 acres in Hyrum and in the next seven years we will build 200 homes there if the current demand continues,” said Kim Datwyler, the Executive Director of Neighborhood Housing Solutions. “The first phase of 10 is under construction and we have more ready to go.”

Datwyler joined the program, in 2001 and has experienced some rewarding times over the years.

“It is kind of a milestone for the program,” said Datwyler. “Families have built their own homes. They go from the deer in the head lights look to look what I can do.

Neighborhood Housing Solutions also has projects going on the north end of the valley in Smithfield.

“I still have the first construction supervisor,” Trent Hansen, she said. “I hired a great builder and psychologist.”
