LOGAN — The case involving a 31-year-old former Logan man, accused of downloading child pornography, is going to trial after attorneys failed to reach a plea agreement. Jeffrey L. Detton is charged with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.
Detton appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. His public defender, Shannon Demler told the court they wanted to proceed to trial. The announcement came after several months of negotiations between attorneys for both sides.
Court records show charges and an arrest warrant were filed against Detton in March 2015. The defendant wasn’t arrested until August 1 when he was found living in Riverton.
On August 29, Detton waived his right to a preliminary hearing. He was later released from the Cache County Jail after posting $50,000 bail.
The two-day jury trial is scheduled to begin May 23.
Detton could face up to 15-years in prison if found guilty.
