Jenny Wilson is currently an at-large member of the Salt Lake County Commission and she is mounting a campaign for U.S. Senate on the Democratic Party ticket. As a guest on KVNU’s For the People program, Wilson said a major reason she decided to run is because she feels there is a need to be more humane in the halls of Congress.
Her race will likely be closely watched because Republican, and former Presidential candidate, Mitt Romney is also running for the office vacated by retiring Republican Senator Orrin Hatch.
Wilson said one issue she is especially concerned with is immigration and the need to give legal protection to those who were born in this country.
“It really seems to me to be really simple,” Wilson exclaimed. “I think that was the action of the White House.
“It’s now being treated like a ping pong ball, I think a little bit, without clarity and I think it was used as a bargaining chip as well going into the budget. Now we’ve passed the budget, recently, without Congress taking on the issue, leaving the future uncertain.”
Politics runs in the family for Wilson. Her father is former Salt Lake City Mayor Ted Wilson.
