She was the last to file for an office on Thursday, but Marilyn Mecham says she has been thinking of running for state representative for some time. She filed as a Democrat to represent House Legislative District 3.
She says she would like to help restore a two-party system and also do more to help education so good teachers would keep their jobs for more than one or two years.
“I’d like to see more money being put into field trips and other educational learning activities,” Mecham explains. “I want to make sure we’re not spending tax payer money on benefits for legislators. I want to keep lobbyists out of it.”
Mecham is a resident of Smithfield and the mother of six children. She says it is great now to be enjoying grandchildren.
