.A strong storm system will produce a wintry mix of rain, sleet,
freezing rain, and snow tonight and Friday.
Precipitation will begin as rain across northeast Wyoming and
southwest South Dakota this evening, transitioning to a mix of
freezing rain and/or snow. Across south central South Dakota, a
longer period of freezing rain is expected into Friday morning
before the precipitation transitions to snow or sleet. Another
period of freezing drizzle is possible Friday afternoon after the
main band of snow shifts east out of the region. Several inches
of snow can be expected across southwest into central South
Dakota, with light icing across much of western and central South
Dakota, heaviest over south central South Dakota. Some
uncertainly still remains with this system and a slight shift in
track would change snow and ice amounts.
