SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a 24-year-old Utah man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl he met on a Salt Lake City-area public transit train.
The Deseret News <a target=”—blank” href=”https://www.deseretnews.com/article/900012516/utah-man-charged-with-raping-12-year-old-he-met-on-trax.html”>reports</a> that Alec Cole Tate of South Jordan was charged Friday with two counts of felony rape of a child.
Court records do not say whether Tate has a lawyer representing him in the case.
Police allege that Tate asked the girl for her phone number while riding TRAX in July, began text-messaging her, and later met her at a friend’s apartment for sex.
Records show that Tate has previous felony and misdemeanor drug convictions.
