Logan City votes to proclaim April as Child Abuse Prevention Month

Logan’s Municipal Council at their meeting on Tuesday agreed to proclaim the month of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. The request was made by Esterlee Molyneaux, executive director of The Family Place, which she said has been working to help children and families for more than 20 years.

And she said she has loved every minute of that time.

“Last week we had a child who was in our care, who was an 8-year-old little boy,” Molyneaux explained. “He looked at one of our staff members and said, ‘I do not have one reason to smile today.’

“This little boy has been suicidal, he has depression, he has anxiety because of the abuse that he suffered when he was younger. He is one of 364 children this past year who have had substantiated cases of child abuse or neglect in Cache County.”

She said several different activities will be held during Child Abuse Prevention Month to bring attention to the problem and to the help that is available.
